Introduction to Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing
The course provides an overview on the international and regional efforts to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
We warmly welcome you to the self-study course offered by FAO's Development Law Service (LEGN): Development Law Service (LEGN) Introduction to Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, which takes 15 hours to complete.
The objective of this course is to provide an overview of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and its impact and the efforts at the international and regional levels to prevent, deter and eliminate such fishing.
Among the contents to be covered are: the meaning of the term IUU fishing; causes, impact and scale of IUU fishing; how international instruments seek to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing; and, the practice of regional organizations to combat IUU fishing.
FAO has decided to develop this virtual version of the Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing course to increase the level of understanding of IUU fishing, its impact and the efforts to address such fishing.
